The president of America, Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China on the 1st day of February 2024.
Canada and Mexico were slammed with 25% import tariff and additional 10% on china and Canada energy simultaneously.
According to IVEY ” Trump’s plan to impose a 25% tariff on Canada is actually about pressuring the country to intensify efforts against migration and drug trafficking, while also promoting the “Buy American” agenda to strengthen the US economy.
It’s not directly related to a border issue, but rather a way to use trade as a bargaining chip to achieve his goals.
The tariff could have significant economic implications for Canada, including a potential contraction of the GDP and job losses, especially in industries that rely heavily on cross-border supply chains like the automotive sector.
The president through his official post on truth social disclosed an imposition of 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada.
According to him; Today, i have implemented a 25% Tariff on Imports from Mexico and China (10% on Canadian energy), and a 10% additional tariff on China.
This was done thorough the international Emergency Economic Powers Act(IEEPA) because of the major threat of illegal aliens and deadly drugs killing our citizens, including fentanyl.

Meanwhile, Canada has retaliated by imposing 25% tariff on USA. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau imposes 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods.
According to him; “The United States has confirmed that it intends to impose 25% tariffs on most Canadian goods, with 10% tariffs on energy, starting February 4.
I’ve met with the Premiers and our Cabinet today, and I’ll be speaking with President Sheinbaum of Mexico shortly.

On the Other hands, the president has threatened BRICS countries over their plans to create new currency to rival US dollar on international trade.
The president frowned at such decisions promising to impose 100% tariffs to the BRICS countries.
“The idea that the BRICS countries are trying to move away from the dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER.
We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile countries that they will neither create a new BRICS currency, nor back any other currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy.
They can go find another sucker nation.
There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. dollar in international Trade, or anywhere else , and any country that tries should say hello to Tariff , and goodbye to America!.
