Pavel Durov Hails Self for Upholding Press Freedom On Telegram
The CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov has hailed himself for upholding freedom of opinions and press on his platform, 9jaglover writes.
In a post on his X handle, Durov claimed he allowed Freedom of press on his platform when everyone was afraid to do so.
“I’m proud that Telegram has supported freedom of speech long before it became politically safe to do so. Our values don’t depend on US electoral cycles.”
Furthermore, the Russian tech billionaire boasts of taking all the risk to give people the platform to express themselves.
“Today, other platforms are announcing they’ll now have less censorship. But the real test of their newly discovered values will come once the political winds change again. It’s easy to say you support something when you risk nothing.”
Recall that Durov was arrested when he visited France by the French Government who sought for ways to censor his app.
In addition, the CEO of Facebook, mark Zuckerberg announced his readiness to introduce community note on Facebook, similar to the one operated on X.
This community note will help reduce censorship on Facebook. It will also replace factcheck!
According to Zuckerberg “It’s time to get back to our roots around free expression. We’re replacing fact checkers with Community Notes, simplifying our policies and focusing on reducing mistakes. Looking forward to this next chapter
On the other hand, Elon Musk the CEO of X reacted to Durov post, with a comment, “Good One”.
Elon who bought Twitter and renamed it to X introduced Community Note on the app which would monitor Fake news, propagandas etc.
It also help in the following which includes;
1. Flagging suspicious or misleading content
2. Providing context to tweets
3. Correcting misinformation
4. Adding nuance to discussions
5. Helping to moderate conversations”.
In summary, he commended Elon Musk whom he believed took all the risk to give press freedom on his app, X.
